Neither a bed and breakfast, nor an hotel; built in the 18th century, La Bastide de Fabrègues is a delightful and authentic family home, available for you to enjoy for a long weekend or for one or more weeks.
Given to their daughter as a dowry in the 19th century, by the owners of the time, this gentle house was created under the sign of love and was to have been called “La Bastide des Coeurs” ( the House of Hearts), indeed the emblem of the Bastide representing a stylised orange tree and a heart bears witness to that. However it was called after the place name “Fabrègues”, which comes from the Latin FABRICA meaning “smithy” (in French, “forges”) and which is yet another reference to embers and passion.
Its delightful garden surrounded by stone walls offers the charm of century old trees, of a small waterlily pond and a 19th century orangery where you can lunch and receive guests round the two large stone tables.
When you arrive, a long alley of olive trees and lavenders leads you to the stone walls which hide this delightful family home from view, with access through a beautiful openwork gate.
Composed of gigantic blocks of stone, this poetic wall is the hallmark of the domain, with its fragrant wisteria and jasmine-clad "gloriettes" which invite you to sit and watch the evening sun set under a canopy of wrought iron lace.
The 6000 m² walled and perfumed garden offers a journey in itself: a 19th century orangery perfect for large family lunches, swimming pool set in the trees, romantic "gloriettes" , hammocks and sun-loungers under the century old trees, benches for dreaming, tables in stone and teak for drinking afternoon tea…
On the first floor, three double bedrooms, absolutely delightful (bed linen supplied), and a mezzanine sleeping area for 2 or 3 children, open onto a romantic balcony, overhung by a 200 year old plane tree under whose shade you may choose to breakfast; two bathrooms with bath and shower, a large fitted kitchen, a separate and refined dining room, a fully equipped laundry, a beautiful lounge with deep sofa and armchairs, a drinks cabinet, a card table, television, library… will all give you the opportunity to discover Provence and the Camargue from a genuine, refined and serene base.
The house itself presents all the charm of a real family home, both natural and refined: delicious bedding, fine linen, plentiful crockery and cutlery, antique furniture, relaxing sofa and chairs, the convenience of a large kitchen and a true, perfectly equipped linen room as well as the contempory enjoyment of Wifi internet access, satellite television with DVD and CD player and a library ready to devour.
You will find no marble, no silk in this haven of peace and tranquillity, rather the luxury of space, of beauty, and of comfort: perfect and contemporary beds, exceptional bed linen in hand- embroidered white cotton percale, antique pieces of furniture, paintings and engravings, original artists’ drawings, board games, a library to bury yourself in, a spacious fully-equipped kitchen and the Golf Club of Nîmes-Campagne less than one kilometer away.
In addition, and at a time to suit you, you will be able to enjoy the delights of a free tasting of the rich and varied wines of the Chateau de la Tuilerie, AOC Costières de Nîmes, in the wine- tasting cellar less than 2 kilometers from the Bastide.
To enable you to fully enjoy the exclusive delights of this house, without the constraints of sharing, the Bastide is not available for partial rental.
The large enclosed garden provides total security in which children can explore its secrets and followers of the “siesta” tradition can partake of their favourite exercise in the hammocks provided for this purpose in the shade of the trees. The garden is also equipped with a shower to refresh yourself after sun-bathing and a lovely round swimming pool shelted and surrounded by trees (Barbecue, bicycles and table tennis are supplied).
The Bastide is within walking distance (1 km) of the Golf club de Campagne, 30 minutes from the beaches of Saintes Maries de la Mer, in the very heart of the vines of the Château de la Tuilerie with its wine cellar nearby, and ideally placed for you to enjoy the many festivals that take place in the surrounding area during the summer months or be charmed by a Provencal Christmas... perfect for all seasons and ready to welcome you now
